Events celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland started on July 27 in Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR).
The celebrations were organized by the Macao Women's Celebration Preparatory Committee (MWCPC) comprised of the Women's General Association of Macao (WGAM), the Macao Foundation and some other organizations in Macao SAR.
The opening ceremony of the celebrations and a forum concerning the women and children's affairs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area were held on July 27. Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Fernando Chui Sai-on, Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, attended the opening ceremony.
Xia Jie, Vice-President of the All-China Women's Federation, highly praised the successful implementation of "one country, two systems" in Macao SAR. She encouraged all women from the Macao SAR to carry forward good traditions and continue devoting to the construction of the Greater Bay Area.
He Dingyi, Chairperson of the WGAM and the MWCPC, along with Tam Chon Weng, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR, expressed their support for the dual anniversary celebrations as well as their appreciation of the mother country and their hope for women and children workers in the Greater Bay Area.
An exhibition featuring the development of Macao women and children presented more than 100 precious photos. With pictures, statistics and text records, the exhibition reflected the overall development of Macao's women and children and promoted the spirits of self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance and self-improvement.
At the Women's Development Forum of the Greater Bay Area, senior officers from women's federations gathered together to discuss the direction of the women and children's work in this area in the future in the hope of setting up a mechanism for coordinating them with the country's development strategy.
To enhance the sense of well-being, happiness and security of the residents in the Greater Bay Area, several cooperative intentions were expressed in support of services ranging from marriage and family mediations to children's development programs.
In the evening, the preparatory committee held a themed female gala, which was festive and warm, full of patriotism and love for Macao SAR.
