The Office of the National Working Committee on Children and Women (NWCCW), under the State Council, conducted training to help directors of working committees on children and women, at the county level across the country, improve their ability to prevent and crack down on the abductions of and trafficking in children and women . The training was conducted in Changsha, capital of Central China's Hunan Province, on July 3-4.
Several leaders — including Tan Lin, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), Wu Haiying, Vice-Governor of Hunan Province and Director of Hunan Working Committee on Children and Women, and Chen Shiqu, Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, under China's Ministry of Public Security — spoke during the opening ceremony. Directors of the working committees on children and women (of 51 of the counties, cities and districts in 11 of China's provinces and autonomous regions), and directors of the offices of the provinces' working committees on children and women, attended the course.
Tan stressed the Chinese Government has attached great importance to women- and children-related work. She urged workers with the working committees on children and women, at all levels across the country, to strengthen their work related to the promotion of women and children's development, and to the protection of women and children's legal rights and interests. Tan also stressed cadres with the committees should promote efforts to prevent and crack down on abductions of and trafficking in children and women.
Leaders of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, the Center for International Cooperation and Protection against Human Trafficking, under China University of Political Science and Law, and Baobeihuijia (Baby Come Home, a nongovernmental organization that helps reunite lost children with their families), provided lectures to participants, so they could better help residents prevent abductions of and trafficking in children and women. Cadres with the working committees on children and women, at all levels in different regions of the country, shared their experiences in combating abductions of and trafficking in children and women.
Many of the trainees said they had gained a better understanding of the importance of combating the abductions of and trafficking in children and women, and of China's recently promulgated laws and regulations pertaining to the protection of children and women's legal rights and interests. They also vowed to improve their work related to preventing and cracking down on the abductions of and trafficking in children and women, to protect children and women's legal rights and interests.
